Why I Give

I give to the library because it has been my second home away from home. From staying late nights to cram for tests, to gaining valuable experience with a UCLA research librarian to finish my paper, I cannot stress the impact the library has had on me. By giving to the library, we become more invested on its future—as technology becomes more useful in academic settings, our donation helps to make sure that the library keeps offering their services to students, along with developing ideas so that the students could maximize their time at the library.
Maira Garcia, Class of 2017
UCLA is only able to maintain its world-class reputation and environment through private support. With state funding and tuition comprising only 15% of UCLA’s budget, is imperative that students like me give back. I am benefiting so much from the generous support of others from previous years that it is only fitting to pay it forward. I am proud to give to the Chancellor’s Greatest Needs in order to make UCLA as wonderful as it is for its students and the community.
Victoria Elias, Class of 2017
Philanthropic contributions to Student Affairs are absolutely vital to further the future of the UCLA we know and love. These donations have the potential to fund important services, like Residential Life and the thousands of campus groups, for future generations of Bruins. As future alumni, we can and should cement our legacy by initiating a cycle of giving back to the university that has given so much to us.
Danny Siegel, USAC President, Class of 2017
I give to AAP because I have been afforded the opportunity to attend UCLA due to the kindness of my scholarship donors. I would like to give other students the opportunity to be their best by giving to an organization that provides resources and aids students in reaching their full potential.

FAQ

Q: I already pay tuition, why should I give more?
A: Most Bruins don’t realize that your tuition and state funds only cover 15% of your UCLA education. UCLA is able to thrive due to private support that helps bridge the actual cost of attending UCLA. Your own UCLA experience has largely been supplemented by students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, corporations, and foundations. By supporting UCLA Fund through giving back to your favorite program or department you are helping ensure your own UCLA experience is top notch.

Q: Does my participation matter?
A: Yes! Publications like the U.S. News & World Report use philanthropy as a factor to rank UCLA and determine overall student satisfaction. Foundations and corporations also use these rankings as a factor when they evaluating grant funding and prospective gifts. Your gift as a student has great influence!

Q: How does being a donor affect me?
A: The UCLA Fund’s Young Alumni and Student Giving programs have built up an expansive network of Bruins to provide support to all of our donors. Being a donor, makes UCLA a smaller and more intimate experience. Additionally, if you become a member of the Chancellor’s Society (with a gift of $100 or more) you will have the opportunity to connect with other esteemed donors in the Chancellor’s Circle by being invited to exclusive events and networking opportunities as well as the end of the year Chancellor’s Reception.

Q: Where does my gift go to?
A: One of the great things about giving to UCLA is that you have the opportunity to designate your gift to over 250 different funds. These funds include academic departments, student programs, scholarships, and more. Student Giving at UCLA is about YOU. We want to make sure each student can give back to the area that they care about most.
