UCLA isn't just part of Los Angeles—it's a global institution! Our students are making a difference around the world, demonstrating how universal UCLA's influence has become.

Here are just a few examples of how Bruins are changing lives worldwide:
  • During the recent mass demonstrations in Egypt, a UCLA doctoral student used social media websites Twitter and YouTube to share eyewitness accounts of the events in Cairo. HyperCities, developed by UCLA, is an interactive map streaming Twitter messages from Egypt.
  • There’s a global community of Bruins—UCLA ranks third among American universities in the number of students studying abroad. In 2010, students studied in 35 countries including Brazil, Hong Kong, and Italy. UCLA also ranks seventh among U.S. universities in attracting international students. • This March, UCLA will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Peace Corps, whose creation UCLA played a key role in. Here, UCLA alumni, faculty, and staff recall their own experiences as Peace Corps volunteers.
UCLA’s presence continues to expand globally due to the intellectual curiosity of students, the dedication of our faculty, and the collective support of parents, alumni, and friends. UCLA starts with U!
